Is there any labelling on white component? And did you have batteries in flash when you connected bulb?

It is right under the white hood. So I accidentally connected both ends of the bulb and this component smoked. What is it and what does it do? And do I need to replace it? My bulb is broken. Will replacing the bulb and leaving this component as it is cause any problems?

Very interesting test. Thank you for the effort. This immediately led to the purchase of the 80mm f/4 macro.

If you’re going to repeat this test, it would be even more useful if you, in addition to shooting each lens wide open, shot all of them at f/4 or f/5.6, thereby comparing them at the same aperture.

I will have to redo the test, as I have acquired some modern Schneider Kreuznach Leaf shutter Lenses since I have done this test.
And I will probably do it at 2 meter distance this time.
